Dr. Fábio Luiz Vieira’s engagement with global health is grounded in direct professional experience, not theoretical exposure alone. His trajectory spans nearly a decade of clinical and public health work in Angola. At Imperial College London, Dr. Vieira completed an MSc in International Health Management, awarded with Merit, a postgraduate programme integrating health systems analysis, global health policy, health economics, and the management of healthcare organisations in international contexts. Moreover, he held public health roles and project management positions in Brazil, and contributed guest teaching at a Brazilian medical school. Together, these experiences form a coherent global health perspective that informs his current clinical practice.

Angola: Clinical Practice and Public Health Work in Africa

The most sustained chapter of Dr. Vieira’s international experience took place in Angola. He worked there for close to ten years, encompassing direct clinical care, public health initiatives, and project-based work. He operated in an environment characterised by significant resource constraints, high infectious disease burden, and complex humanitarian and institutional dynamics. Furthermore, he contributed to health systems strengthening efforts at both local and national levels.

During this time, Dr. Vieira obtained formal medical recognition through the Ordem dos Médicos de Angola. This reflected compliance with Angolan medical regulation and genuine integration into the country’s professional medical community — not merely a temporary international posting. His work generated documentation across multiple professional channels, including research contributions accessible through published academic records and formal institutional declarations.

Clinical Competencies in Infections and Tropical Diseases Management

Working in Angola for nearly a decade demanded clinical competencies that extend beyond standard practice contexts. These included adaptive diagnostic reasoning under resource constraints and management of infectious and tropical disease presentations. Dr. Vieira engaged with local health systems and institutional partners throughout this period. As a result, he built sustained practice within a culturally and epidemiologically distinct environment. This experience deepened his understanding of health systems, inequity, and the structural determinants of disease in ways that continue to shape his clinical perspective.

Formal academic training in international health has been pursued at two of the world’s leading institutions in this field.

At Imperial College London, Dr. Vieira completed an MSc in International Health Management. This programme integrates health systems analysis, global health policy, health economics, and the management of healthcare organisations in international contexts. Specifically, the degree provided structured academic grounding for the practical experience he had accumulated during his years in Africa and Brazil.

At the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) — the world’s leading institution dedicated specifically to global and tropical health — he completed a course in Health Economics, deepening his analytical framework for understanding how healthcare systems allocate resources, set priorities, and respond to population health needs.

 

Health Policy, Health Economics, and International Health Management

The combination of Imperial College London and LSHTM reflects a deliberate and sustained academic investment in global health as a professional domain. 

Beyond academic publications, the MSc programme led directly to a real-world entrepreneurial engagement: in the final months of 2017, Dr. Vieira participated in the Simulation for Digital Health (SimDH) programme at London South Bank University — an EU-funded incubator supporting health tech startups — as manager of a digital fertility preservation project.

This perspective is particularly relevant in his current work with expatriates, international patients, and individuals navigating the Brazilian healthcare system from abroad — where cross-cultural competence, systemic awareness, and adaptive clinical judgment are not optional skills, but essential ones.
